Postulancy

The formation journey begins with postulancy and novitiate; each of these lasts one year and takes place in a Passionist Community. The postulancy is an introduction to living in a religious community. Religious Formation has spiritual, intellectual and human dimensions, and formation in all of these areas begins during the time of postulancy. Postulants share in the prayer life of the community and are introduced to the Liturgy of the Church. The teachings of the Church are also studied, using the Catechism of the Catholic Church as a core text, and the postulants are introduced to the spirituality and history of the Passionists. Spiritual Direction is an essential element of formation at this stage, as it will be throughout the person’s Passionist Life. During the postulancy, the candidates have their first experience of the apostolate and ministries of the Province.

Enquirers are invited to make contact with the Vocations Team (see below for contact information); a member of the Vocations Team can meet with the enquirer to answer questions and provide an initial point of contact with the Passionists. Candidates are usually between the ages of 18 and 35, although in particular circumstances older candidates are also considered.
